US President Trump denies taking hair loss medication

US President Trump denies taking hair loss medication

President of the United States Donald J. Trump may have taken finasteride to prevent hair loss for years, possibly for more than a decade. But his current medical reports suddenly no longer list the drug.

Propecia suddenly no longer present in Trump's medical records

Millions of men in the U.S. take finasteride to prevent hair loss. Between 2017 and 2024, finasteride prescriptions in men over 25 have increased by over 200 percent.

Even the president himself has been open about taking it in the past. During his first term, multiple doctors have said that Trump used finasteride. But somehow, the drug is no longer appearing in his medical records.

The White House is claiming that it is not required to disclose medications Trump is taking that are not “deemed clinically relevant,” raising concerns about transparency and what other medications or conditions Trump isn’t willing to disclose.

Other popular figures more willing to break the stigma on hair loss

While Trump and his team continue to deny that the president is taking maintenance medication to keep his hair at its current state, more and more popular figures, including celebrities and even other politicians, are becoming more open about the fact that their hair requires care.

In an interview with People Magazine in August 2025, wrestler-turned-actor John Cena admitted that he had gotten a hair transplant in November 2024. He even laments that, were it not for the stigma surrounding men experiencing hair loss, he would have gotten hair loss care earlier in his career.

“I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner - and I also got a hair transplant last November,” Cena said during the interview. “I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, buit seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.”

“It completely changed my life,” Cena added about his hair transplant and his ongoing hair maintenance routine.

Back in the world of politics, Zohran Mamdani, the popular mayor of New York City, admitted during an interview that he takes minoxidil.

On the June 2 episode of the podcast Pablo Torres Finds Out, Mamdani said “I’m on that minoxidil.”

Mamdani added that he had been using minoxidil for about six months at that point. “I was just started to see [my hair]. This is not going my way.

“I’m just, like, trying to push off Turkey, like out of the term,” he joked, referring to one of the world’s most popular destinations for hair transplant procedures.
